Hurricane (pronounced [h..kn]) is a city in Putnam County, West Virginia, USA. The population was 5,222 at the 2000 census. The 2005 census estimate has Hurricane with a population of 5,968.

The racial makeup of the city was 98.12% White, 0.67% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.10% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.54% of the population.

There were 2,098 households out of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
